When we set out to build The Black Dog Group’s identity, we didn’t have to look far for inspiration. The two little souls who capture our hearts (and demand our attention) every day — our rescue dogs Joy and Jax — became the foundation of our brand.
Beyond being beloved pets, their personalities embody the very values we believe drive successful businesses: Collaboration and Innovation.
Joy – Our Black Lab mix is intuitive, protective, patient, and observant. Her sensitive and thoughtful demeanor represents the spirit of collaboration — listening, understanding, and working together to achieve shared goals.
Jax – Our Rat Terrier mix is energetic, persistent, quick to adapt, and impossible to ignore. He captures the essence of innovation — bringing fresh energy, adaptability, and bold ideas to the table.
Originally, they held tongue-in-cheek titles as our FVPs (Furry Vice Presidents).
Over time, their roles evolved: Jax now serves as our enthusiastic Director of First Impressions, while Joy shines as our steady and reliable Quality Assurance Officer.
Our mascots remind us daily that business, like life, is better when approached with personality, persistence, and playfulness. They’re also a nod to our culture: we believe pets belong in the workplace — whether that’s a home office or, one day, a brick-and-mortar headquarters where Joy and Jax would certainly roam the halls.
